About Clitheroe

"A small castle, 15,000 people, and five gastropubs: Welcome to Clitheroe."
(The Guardian)

Clitheroe is the perfect place for a weekend of fun, culture, shopping, good food and great music. Oh…and of course, some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK.

Clitheroe has fought off the big retail developers and has a wonderful range of independent shops selling designer clothes and shoes, hand made furniture, locally crafted jewellery, lighting, homeware and a lot more!

It is a destination town for its local food and beers. Our famous sausage shop; Cowmans has featured in countless tv programmes and Byrnes our independent wine shop is one of the most famous in the North.

The recently opened Holmes Mill can provide hours of entertainment. The huge beer hall offers a range of it's own fine brews as well as many independent beers and the food hall next door showcases all the best in local produce. If beer isn’t your thing there is a food hall delicatessen, café, ice-cream parlour and bistro to boot. Why not stay a night or two in the modern industrial chic hotel? It’s worth a visit just to see how impressively the architects have transformed the site with cutting edge design whilst retaining the original mill features and atmosphere.

If you need to walk off some of that food and drink take a walk up to our Norman castle and museum. The kids will love it and all the child friendly activities plus the playgrounds, skate park and open spaces of the adjoining park.

Finally, check up on the latest in the art world by taking an Artwalk round our many galleries and studios.
