Imagine the raw power of African voices in harmony; the pounding rhythm of Africa blended with the explosive energy of a live band. This young and vibrant group of Zulu performers and seasoned musicians from UK reach back into the past to combine ancient tradition with contemporary flare. Vicente Magalhães Trio Doors: 9:00pm | Stage: 9:30pm to 10:15pm Venue: Keystreet Music Bar | FREE! Vicente Magalhães is a jazz pianist from Lisbon, Portugal. With Jack Garside on bass, and Alasdair Pennington on drums, the trio's tunes are a tribute to Portuguese music inspired by some of Portugal's greatest folk artists, as well as some of UK's best jazz musicians. The trio, students at Leeds College, will play a 45 minute set before handing over to contemporary Northernline band Archipelago. Peter Riley - A Swing Commander Stage: 10:30pm to Midnight Venue: The Ale House | FREE! Peter Riley takes time out from swinging with the Swing Commanders to entertain the late nite crowds at The Ale House after headliners have finished their gigs. Come and squeeze in to this unique real ale bar - it's worth it! Archipelago Stage: 10:30pm to Midnight Venue: Keystreet Music Bar | FREE! Event Sponsor - Su Williams Archipelago is presented by Jazz North's Northernline programme. Improvisation meets compositions inspired by jazz, punk rock & avant- garde. A reeds-bass-drums trio kick up a sand storm of sonic possibilities - music at the crux of what is learned & what is felt! Supported by Leeds College of Music student band, Vincente Magalhães Trio. The Gelatos Stage: 8pm to 10pm Venue: The Station Bar & Grill The Gelatos, are a hugely entertaining, all live (piano, double bass, sax/clarinet), all singing jazz trio playing songs from the 40s & 50s with an Italian twist. As a trio, The Gelatos are electric with fun, flavour and Italian spice! Midnite Johnny Stage: 8pm to 10pm Venue: Rose & Crown Hotel Midnite Johnny has worked extensively across his native USA, establishing a reputations one of South Florida’s most powerful blues guitarists. With a vast range of influences his band plays music with roots of Blues meeting hard edges of Rock.
