SUNDAY 6 MAY Camilla George Quartet Doors: 1:30pm | Stage: 2:00pm to 4:30pm Venue: The Grand | Adv Ticket: £14/£12 members, under 16s: FREE She has made a big impact in the past year, leading a terrific young quartet that jumps straight from the jazz tradition with an added calypso twist. Camilla George, a young alto saxophonist - performer, improviser, composer & teacher - is an excellent addition to the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival programme! Camilla has featured with Jazz Jamaica and Courtney Pine's Venus Warriors. She presents her modern edged quartet comprising some of London's finest young players who have performed individually with the likes of Gilad Atzmon, Clark Tracey, Ezra Collective and Tomorrows Warriors. Though inspired by contemporary artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Jeff 'Tain' Watts and Kenny Kirkland, the quartet pays homage to the jazz tradition, with a bit of calypso thrown into the mix. In 2014, Camilla performed at Ronnie Scott's with Jazz Jamaica for 3 consecutive nights. The performances received rave reviews and each was a sell out. Later that year she also joined Courtney Pine's Venus Warriors, an all female super group. Camilla George is definitely one of jazz's Rising Stars!
