Oliver Fullwell Collective / Blackburn with Darwen Big Band / Jack Yerkess / Northern Jazz Orchestra / Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band
St Christopher’s CE High School Swing Band / Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra
One of the challenges that we have faced whilst organising this online festival is how we can reflect the wonderful variety and eclectic programme that is present in the venues throughout the Lancashire town of Clitheroe and beyond. We wanted to create an online festival which would be representative of the whole event and not just the headline artistes.
The 'Festival Big Band Showcase' features a broad range of big band inspired performances including amateur, school, community and professional bands. Some of these performances were created at the height of lockdown, some are from the archives.
A local collective of emerging musicians finding their own way and doing their own thing.
Blackburn with Darwen Big Band
The BwD Big Band is stuffed full of young talent.
We have a truly broad repertoire from swing/jazz through to latin/funk including some hits of recent years, so we cannot fail to please, and get the dance floor jiving.
Jack leads the Jack Yerkess Big Band and plays Trombone in the Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band. His contribution to the showcase is a lockdown special solo rendition of Green Dolphin Street.
Northern Jazz Orchestra
The Northern Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1989 by drummer and musical director Paul Rigby. Working to develop their own unique sound, they combine the best of big band standards with more contemporary jazz using the top musicians in the north.
Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band
Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band is a community big band that plays traditional and contemporary big band, swinging jazz, blues and funk.
St Christopher’s CE High School Swing Band
Music plays a large part in the life of St Christopher's school, the swing band is just one of the music department's many ensembles which have a strong reputation locally and beyond.
Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra
In this video, talented young musicians from LYJO Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra perform ‘In the Wee Small Hours by David Mann, featuring their vocalist Kate Macadam, during Lockdown. LYJO welcomes young instrumentalists interested in playing Jazz and who’d love the chance to be part of an ensemble.
